Newcastle United Target Keen On Inter Milan Switch
- Updated: March 6, 2013
Twente player and Newcastle United target Douglas has his eye on a Serie A move this summer rather than into the English Premier League.
The Magpies were reported to have been mulling over making a move for the centre half during the summer transfer window, while Fulham were also linked with a move in the January window.
A move to the Premier League in the end failed to transpire, and billionaire backed Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala attempted to sign the 25-year-old prior to the closure of their transfer window last month, after the departure of Christopher Samba to QPR.
It would appear that Douglas has his heart set on a move to Serie A, and rebuff any efforts from anyone else until the Nerazzurri up their efforts to sign him.
“It is good that a top club like Anzhi made an offer to Douglas, but he wants to play in Serie A,” his representative Marcos Paulo Ribeiro told Russian newspaper Izvestia, Sky Sports report.
“And when Inter showed interest in the player, we decided to stop negotiations with the Russian club and wait for the summer transfer market.”
